About the Common: Art in Public Space
Modern life often leaves people with less time, attention, and energy to visit cultural institutions. Many feel that art is not meant for them.
.
How and why does art step outside institutions and enter public space? What messages does it carry, and who has access to them? What challenges—and what opportunities—arise when art becomes part of everyday urban life? Can catharsis, awareness-raising, and the democratization of culture through art truly become available to everyone in public space?
.
Subotica has a history of environmental theatre through the work of KPGT in the 1980s. How did the city receive this approach, and why? How do we read the city today, and how do we interpret the messages that art communicates in public space?
.
The discussion will take place on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 18:00 in the Klara and Rosa space (Petefi Šandora 15).

The public discussion series “About the Common” aims to foster education, dialogue, exchange of ideas, listening, and collective reflection. Through this program, we seek to strengthen the sense of community, encourage critical thinking, and share experiences, ideas, and practices—opening conversations about the issues and themes present in our society and our city.
.
The program is supported by the Heinrich Böll Foundation from Belgrade.
