Grounding Retreat
Grounding Retreat is a retreat program designed for women activists, artists, cultural workers, project coordinators, and community organizers who dedicate themselves to supporting communities and creating social change.
The project emerged from a shared need to create a safe space where women can support one another, exchange experiences and practices, discuss challenges they encounter in their work, and find time for rest, reflection, and renewal.
We recognise that many women working in activism, culture, education, and community development operate under precarious conditions. They often balance professional responsibilities, care work, and personal commitments while continuously investing their energy, creativity, and emotional labor into improving the lives of others.
The retreat was created as a response to these realities – a space where care becomes collective, where rest is valued, and where meaningful connections can be built through shared experiences.
Through an immersive program in nature, participants are invited to slow down, reconnect with themselves and others, restore their energy, and strengthen the resilience needed for long-term community work.
Our Story
Grounding Retreat was born from lived activist experience.
For years, we witnessed women working at the edge of their capacities – organising projects, leading initiatives, supporting communities, and driving social change while often neglecting their own well-being. Again and again, we encountered the need for spaces dedicated not to productivity or performance, but to restoration, care, and mutual support.
What began as an idea to gather a small group of women in nature soon evolved into a retreat program grounded in solidarity, creativity, and collective well-being.
The positive experiences and reflections of participants confirmed the importance of continuing this work. Grounding Retreat remains an evolving platform that responds to the needs of women engaged in social, cultural, and community-based initiatives.
What We Believe
-Grounding Retreat is rooted in the belief that care is a collective practice.
-We believe that sustainable activism requires spaces for recovery and reflection.
-We believe that communities become stronger when those who support them also receive support.
-We believe that creativity, solidarity, and shared experience can foster resilience and transformation.
-We believe that rest is not a reward, but a necessary condition for long-term engagement and meaningful social change.
Our Approach
The retreat combines creative, reflective, and community-based practices that nurture both individual and collective well-being.
Creative Practices
Participants engage in workshops and activities such as movement, dance, yoga, voice work, creative writing, visual arts, and other forms of artistic expression that encourage exploration, embodiment, and self-discovery.
Exchange of Practices
Women from different fields share methodologies, experiences, challenges, and tools developed through their work with communities. These exchanges create opportunities for mutual learning, inspiration, and collaboration.
Rest and Nature
Hosted in peaceful natural environments, Grounding Retreat encourages participants to step away from everyday pressures and reconnect with slower rhythms, natural surroundings, and their own needs.
Collective Care
The retreat creates a supportive environment where participants can listen, be heard, reflect together, and experience the healing potential of community.
Impact
The experiences shared by participants consistently highlight the importance of creating dedicated spaces for care, connection, and restoration.
Grounding Retreat has enabled women to:
-Recover from burnout and exhaustion;
-Build meaningful support networks;
-Exchange knowledge and practices;
-Develop new collaborations and friendships;
-Explore creative approaches to community work;
-Strengthen personal resilience and confidence;
-Experience the transformative power of collective care.
The retreat demonstrates that community itself can be a source of healing, empowerment, and long-term sustainability.
Looking Forward
Grounding Retreat continues to grow as a platform for women committed to social change, creativity, and community well-being.
Each edition contributes to an expanding network of relationships, practices, and shared experiences that extend far beyond the retreat itself.
We envision Grounding Retreat as a living community – a space where women can gather, rest, learn, create, and support one another while imagining new possibilities for more caring, connected, and sustainable futures.
We invite you to explore the stories, photographs, reflections, and outcomes of previous retreat editions and become part of this growing journey.
