Literature Returns to Subotica: Milan Mazinjanin
On Saturday, March 7 at 7 PM, we’ll have the chance to hear a new poetic voice on our scene. It’s the young poet Milan Mazinjanin, who published his debut poetry collection last year, The Day I Decided Not to Be Silence, with the Belgrade-based publisher Imperativ.
Milan Mazinjanin’s The Day I Decided Not to Be Silence is a powerful and thoughtful poetic experiment at the intersection of literary and non-literary discourse. Writing in forms that draw on the language of everyday life, administration, records, and fragments, the author dismantles traditional patterns of lyrical expression and opens space for rethinking meaning and form.
Through this kind of formal and semantic experimentation, the book interrogates the ethos of neoliberal capitalism, the social desolation of the contemporary world, and the fragility of a subject that refuses to remain passive and silent. It emerges as a poetic act of resistance—a testament to a language that refuses neutrality, insisting instead on responsibility, voice, and presence.
Come hang out, ask the poet what interests you, and enjoy a distinct, authentic voice in contemporary poetry. See you there!
