Subotica is a city of around one hundred thousand inhabitants of various nationalities, separated into ethnic groups that create only the appearance of belonging, safety, and multiculturalism. It is a city where independent artists and intellectuals—and therefore supranational culture and contemporary creativity—receive no support; where people mostly live isolated from one another, afraid to express their problems, views, or ideas. A city from which, in recent years, the largest number of people have left, especially the young. In such circumstances, the problems of women—particularly women artists—are hardly ever mentioned.

The performance emerged from psychodrama workshops, group discussions, and dance and singing sessions during which women artists from Subotica explored questions and searched for answers about the meaning of art in a small town, the social role of women, prejudices, and the position of female artists in an environment where mere survival is often the only goal. Through shared artistic work and collective exploration, the artists united to create this performance.
